Senior Regional Adviser - Sub-Saharan Africa, International Organization for Migration (IOM) HQ
Ms Aissata Kane took up her assignment as IOM’s Senior Regional Adviser for Sub-Saharan Africa in August 2019. Her Area of work covered, among others, migration and refugees as well as human rights, economic and health issues. During her 18 years of work experience with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Brussels and Geneva, Ambassador Kane had regular interactions with Permanent Missions, Regional Groups, Donors Community, Think Thanks, academia, and civil society organizations based in Geneva in many areas of work including humanitarian, development and peace portfolios. Ms Kane was appointed by the UN Secretary-General as CERF Advisor Board Member in August 2018.
Prior to her appointment with OIC, Ms Aissata Kane served (1993 – 2001) at the Mauritanian Ministry of Economic and Development Affairs as a Project Officer dealing with projects studies at the Department of planning. She was granted by the government of the Republic Islamic of Mauritania the title of Ambassador-at-large in November 2005.
Ms Kane holds a Master’s degree in Conflictology and a Master’s Degree in Information System management. She followed several trainings on international public affairs with UNITAR in Geneva and Addis Ababa.
