Sara Gawhary

WERA Women’s Empowerment Research Association

Sara Gawhary, a servant leader, researcher, and advocate for women’s rights and civil society, brings extensive experience across international organizations and the private sector in counseling, teaching, coaching, and management. A graduate of the Law and Political Science Faculty at Balkh University, she conducted notable research on the Afghanistan Constitution and international humanitarian law during wartime, publishing her work in the Bayan-Haq journal.  

In Afghanistan, Ms. Gawhary held key roles, including Organizer of TEDx Mazar Conference, Manager of the Women's Empowerment Project at Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH), and various leadership positions with international and private organizations. 

Sara dedicated herself to empowering female students through workshops on legal knowledge, professional skills, research methods, and thesis writing. Her efforts enabled many women to secure roles in internships, legal institutions, and entrepreneurship, with numerous participants successfully launching their own projects and businesses, fostering creativity and economic independence.  

Currently, she is leading the non-profit association for the empowerment of Afghan women in Germany WERA Women’s Empowerment Research Association. As well she is also working as a researcher and Board member with the Center for Afghanistan Policy Studies CAPS
