Localization Expert - International Organization for Migration (IOM)
Michael Solis is the Localization Expert for the International Organization for Migration (IOM). With sixteen years of experience in development, humanitarian action, and human rights, Michael has worked across local organizations, international NGOs, and the UN system. His career is dedicated to promoting locally led solutions and equitable partnerships, bringing extensive expertise in advancing localization across the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) nexus.
Previously, Michael served as Trócaire's Global Director of Partnership & Localization, where he established and directed its Localization Hub in Nairobi, Kenya. He also held the role of Country Director in Sierra Leone, promoting locally led programming during and after the Ebola crisis. His work emphasizes fostering resilience, championing the leadership of grassroots organizations, and challenging power dynamics to ensure sustainability.
A graduate of Princeton University, Michael holds two master’s degrees in International Human Rights Law and Gender and Development Studies, reflecting his commitment to advancing human rights and equity.
